Unusually large and aggressive traumatic bone cysts of the jaws - a series of five cases

Traumatic bone cysts (TBC) in the jaws are asymptomatic, slow growing, usually non-expansile lesions commonly diagnosed during routine radiographic examination. Unusually large and relatively aggressive TBC of the jaws are uncommon. The aetiology and pathogenesis of this entity remain unclear. In the extremities, however, lesions similar to the TBC of jaws are noted but are much larger and exhibit significant growth potential. This series of cases highlights unusually large and aggressive nature of TBC of jaws that is generally considered to be innocuous and non-expansile with minimal clinical significance. TBC may be considered in the differential diagnosis of large mandibular radiolucent lesions.
